The end of the Pier?
The end of the Pier?
The end is now in sight. Having bought the old Westcliff
Annexe (formerly Westcliff School) in 2007, achieved planning permission and
over a period of time restored each of the 5 buildings we are due to complete
the fifth and final phase at the end of 2014.
It has been a long journey. When we started no-one could
have predicted the depth and length of the recession. Northern Rock failed days
after we had completed the purchase! How we rued our timing!! We could have
been favoured with a better financial environment. We could not, however, have
been favoured with a more interesting project to restore.
Whilst possibly not one of our most successful schemes financially
I do nevertheless believe that we have done the properties full justice. Weston
super Mare Civic Society must think so too as they have awarded us with a prize
for our achievements.
The project won’t be over until the last property is sold.
I count it as a blessing that the project has attracted so
many like-minded folk who, like us in 2007, see the potential of the location
and marvel in the wonderful sunsets!
Our neighbouring Birnbeck Pier has yet to find its own
Prince Charming although there is much press speculation of late. The structure
deserves a developer of vision with deep pockets and plenty of passion. We wish
them well.
